Microbloges have the same characteristics as a traditional blog, the only difference is that microblogs are much smaller than blogs. Microblogs could be classed as multimedia blogs, which means that the post can have photos or videos clips attached to them, but when it comes to how much you can write I would think that this type of blog would only consist of brief updates or statements. one of the most popular microblogs would be Twitter, twitter only allows 140 characters as a post, this is almost the same as any mobile phone which means that whilst on the go, twitter can be a good site for brief updating because the phone takes up as much characters as the site. Having small posts makes it a lot more interesting because it is very brief, and that brief statement can be retweeted by followers or the general public. In other words if the story is interesting other people are able to copy the story onto their own wall, this is a very good advantage for business if they want to get recognised in a fast way.

There are several features that both Twitter and Tumblr have in common, but they both have their individual ways of standing out.
Firstly they can both post in the same way, but there are a number of ways in which they can post, and what they want in the post. Twitter has set up a link called Twitpic, which means that any pictures which they post are stored in their Twitpic, so anyone can access their pictures, and they don't need to browse down the page just to look for any pictures that they have. This is a very good option in terms of organisation because all the pictures are in the same place and it is very accessible for the followers as well as the account holder. Since Twitter is a social networking site it has a feature which allows people to view your daily activities, these people are called Followers. Depending on if the author has private setting usually if you go on someone's profile it will have a Follow button on which will allow the author to communicate with that person. in addition to that thee is also a feature which allows the author to send and read other peoples updates called Tweets, and also Retweeting, which is copying a persons update as your own to pass on the story or update. this is good for businesses because they can get a lot of viewers via Twitter, or if an event is going to happen.
many networking sites have the application to send and receive updates via SMS. in today's technology era, there are various ways to access the internet as well as sites such as Twitter, it can be done by mobile phones, the recent Ipad, the Xbox 360 and many other devices, all these enable the author to access their account at ant time and depending on the device at any place.
Twitter also allows you to search for people by name or user name, import friends form other networks, or send them invites via email, this is a good service because it is another way to organise all your friend lists, to also maybe find celebrities, and also giving friends the option to join the growing network of Twitter.

Unlike Twitter where you have to place a hyper-link in the post to show media, Tumblr has made it easier by making a feature which allows the author to upload the media. there are two ways it does this, the first is either embedding the video, or the author can upload the video from their file, this makes it a lot more convenient for the user to have. just like Twitter you can have Tumblr friends, and they way to have to add them as your friend, is the same way that Twitter does it and that is to follow them. unlike Twitter the posts can be as long as they want to be, Tumblr is basically as networking blog, the author can have friends and post their blogs in the same service.Many networks such as Tumblr are very easy accessed by android phones as well as many other devices such as the Ipad, if an author enjoys blogging about every single stage of their life technology of today is able to provide that kind of service.
