Email

The definition of an email or commonly (electronic mail) is an exchange of computer-stored messages which are sent via telecommunication. In order to email it is essential to have a connection to a email server or else the emails will not be able to send. There are two main types of email, webmail and client-based email. the difference between the two is that client-based emails are usually for business users who have to download the email from the server, and put into a application such as Microsoft Outlook. Web mail can be accessible from any computer with Internet connection.

Here are two different email services and their different features

Gmail is one of the best email services for security, HTTPS is one of the compulsory features on on the email service because the HTTPS is used to protect the author from using a false website, which can stop them from being hacked into. It's also useful because it protects any details that is has such as the passwords, any credit card details, and the emails that are sent to their account. Gmail also has an application which is just like the messenger Skype, it allows the author to make calls to friends in their contacts list. it's almost like GMail is a messenger as well as an email service, it is a very useful feature because if the author's friend is online they can instantly chat, and they don't need to have any other messenger since it comes with the email address. it can also be handy when travelling, so they can still talk on the move, or on the train thanks to some of the devices such as android phones, or the Ipad which allows this to happen. The next feature in Gmail is the Priority Box which basically makes life easier for being organised. This feature separates the important mail from the not so important mail, this is very useful because there is no need of looking for which email to read, and it is less time consuming, in addition to that it also helps see any spam mail that is sent to the inbox. Another application that Gmail has is the drag and drop feature, this is another way of saving time on sending multimedia emails. Usually there will be an option to attach any multimedia into the email, now all the author has to do is open, say for example pictures, and Gmail, all they have to do is drag the pictures straight into the email. one of the greatest features on Gmail has to be the talking face to face application, it is a good and efficient way of communicating, and there is no need to download MSN or Yahoo messenger when Gmail has the same feature online.

Hotmail
Hotmail is a very renowned email service, because it has been around for a while, it has 36 languages available which makes it easier for many who do not read or understand English, people who live in rural areas, or generally for people who wish to have their own language in Hotmail. some authors like to keep their emails so that they can refer to them from time to time, Hotmail has included in their email service 2Gs of memory just to start up. this is a very reasonable size as well as it being for free. the next feature about Hotmail is that it feels like you're using Microsoft Outlook, the devices are almost the same and tools as well, so i would think the concept behind Hotmail is that they want their viewers to be familiar with the software so that they have no need of learning how to use the email service. just like Gmail it has a drag and drop service where the author can drag a document into the email without having to go through attachments. Whilst typing an email Hotmail has added a spell check service to assist any misspelled words. This a good application for teenagers because some are getting used to writing in "slang" so having this application could almost stop them from making spelling errors. Hotmail has its own way of protecting its emails, this is done by the spam protection, and the virus scanning. Firstly the spam protection helps prevent spam from entering the inbox, this is a good way to not access false websites which consists of credit details. Secondly the virus scanning is a very good software due to the main reason that it stops viruses from entering the authors computer, and there is no need of buying a software when Hotmail already has this feature and its for free.

Advantages

Emails are becoming a very fast way of communicating between people in society or abroad, there are several advantages of emails these are:
Sending an email is a cheap, in fact there are no costs attached in sending an email to someone whether its near or far. It is also another way of being environmentally friendly, its a lot better to send an email than to send a postcard because of the fact that there are a lot of tress that are being cut down than there is being grown, so emailing is a good way to save the environment

Disadvantages
Of course not everything is perfect so there are numerous disadvantages of having an email, these are:
A lot of spam mail is sent to recipient, this can be quite frustrating because of the fact that they never stop coming, and that the inbox will always be constantly full with mail that should not be there. The second reason would be that there is a lot of path that the email has to go through before it arrives, so there is a chance that someone can hack into the system and steal emails, or usually they will change some of the contents on there and add there own features on it. next reason is that not many people understand emails, especially since we are in an age where some writing aspects have changed, someone may misinterpret what they say, and might loose the value of the message. leading on from that not many people understand how to use mails, most audiences such as the elderly will not have touched a computer in their life time or they just don't know how to use it. the last reason is that in order to even have a email the author needs to have Internet access, without this they will not have any internet t access the emails on, this may be why some people do not know a lot about emails.

Two news stories about emails

Google has updated Gmail with a feature that aims to reduce information overload in e-mail inboxes.Called priority inbox it automatically grades e-mail into four categories: important, important and unread, starred items and everything else.Experts believe less time sifting through e-mail will make people more productive.

More than 60 per cent of red-faced office workers admitted to forwarding sexy or incriminating messages to an unintended recipient. Embarrassing casesincluded the PR girl who wrote a saucy email to her boyfriend, but sent it to a friend on the other side of the world with the same name. One employee admitted to accidentally sending every member of a conference a message which referred to them as "dull as dishwater"
